Converging our SS7 network

In addition to our solution capabilities, we manage a robust network of connections with different mobile operators and carriers. We use our platforms to manage connectivity with a number of MNOs with direct SS7 links, for example. In this case, we’ve also taken steps to enhance how we manage our connectivity.

Although we use our own solutions in all our platforms, in this case, we’ve chosen a third party STP platform to provide a routing engine that will provide interfaces to each network to which we are connected. We are effectively peering with each via SS7, but instead of maintaining individual gateways for each, we will be able to converge all the interconnections into a single product, using STP routing capabilities to ensure effective message transmission and delivery.

Effectively, we run them as a central service but the flexibility of our new STP allows us to easily add new connections, should they be required. This further accelerates time to market, as it means we can deploy solutions without having to deploy a separate gateway in each case.

In addition, depending on the interface available from the peered network, we can select whether to use SIGTRAN (SS7 over IP, including M2UA or M3UA, as required) or traditional TDM interfaces (classic E1 or high-speed links, as appropriate). Importantly, because of the wide range of SS7 variants supported, we can ensure that we can connect to almost any operator around the world.

It’s another example of how we invest in the infrastructure to support our unique managed service propositions and how we capitalise on our operator interconnections to ensure the widest possible service delivery options for our supported customers.

The new platform gives us the flexibility to rapidly turn on new interconnections and more capabilities to support our service offer, allowing us to deliver yet more innovation to our customers and partners – and enabling us to grow gracefully as more capacity and bandwidth is required.
